Arbuckles, Ely Cambridgeshire

When the much loved Norfolk restaurant Arbuckles, decided to open a new venue in Ely, Cambridgeshire in March 2017, they turned to bar experts Gamko to help install the most efficient solution for their draft beers and ciders.
The new venue which is smaller than its sister restaurant in Downham Market has been laid out in its own unique way. Owner operators John and Maxine Murphy chose the smaller site next to a Cineworld Cinema to cater for smaller bookings. Service has to be friendly and efficient, with all available space used to maximise sales and enhance the customer experience.
Arbuckles welcomes guests seven days a week to enjoy quality breakfasts and delicious main meals in an environment where ambience is key. To compliment the tasty food, the bar serves a wide range of drinks including beers and ciders, and this is where the specialist team at Gamko came to the fore.
"We couldn’t be happier about the choice we made. The product itself, along with the service and instillation have been spot on!"
Sammy O’Reilly, Arbuckles Bar Manager Ely explained, ‘Arbuckles prides itself on the range of great food and drink we offer our loyal and new customers every day. We wanted to make sure customers had the same experience when we opened the Ely restaurant. The restaurant accommodates half as many diners as Downham Market, and the physical scale of the site is a lot smaller. This means every bit of space must work incredibly hard for the business – dead space costs money!
‘We wanted to choose the most efficient way of cooling our drink kegs. Customers still deserve a top-quality product but we didn’t have to invest in a massive cellar that we didn’t have the room, or really the need for! Stuart from Gamko explained how their keg cooler range would mean we were only cooling the kegs themselves and not an entire room. It saves us money and meant we have got additional ambient storage we wouldn’t have had, if we had opted for a traditional cellar. It just showed the value of expert advice. We couldn’t be happier about the choice we made. The product itself, along with the service and instillation have been spot on!’
"Clever use of our equipment means more room for the bar itself, which ultimately leads to more money in the till!"
Stuart Grieves, Business Manager for Gamko UK added: ‘Many businesses now either don’t have the room or the actual need for a full traditional cellar. Sites are getting smaller, and new developments don’t tend to be built with basements anymore! Helping bars and restaurants minimize the space they need to give up to keg cooling, can only be a good thing. Clever use of our equipment means more room for the bar itself, which ultimately leads to more money in the till!’
The restaurant is set up with a stylish bar, modern striking design features and comfortable booth seating, with a mezzanine area for more intimate dining.
